About Mulan's combat skills

Postby Tilarta » Thu Sep 17, 2015 1:25 am

I am fairly confused by the combat skills she has.

Why is she using a bo-staff to fight?
In the movie, she either had a sword or fought with martial arts.
The bo-staff was only used during the training montage.

And why is her special ability Fireworks Cannon?
You could get a version you can use more often simply by placing the Fireworks Cannon power disc on the base.

It's just how they decided to make her move set. At least it's not as dumb as the shoulder charge that Lone Ranger, MU, and Toy Story characters have.

I Imagine the staff is kind of like the lightsaber in terms of moves? haven't played the game yet but that's what I first thought. and I think it suits her, also it makes you think of 'man out of you' which is one of the best disney songs in my oppinion. the fireworks cannon is kind of boring though, since we already have that as a disc.

Well, we already have a lot of sword wielders and martial artists, so the staff brings some new moves to the table.

Rey is not available yet, but judging from the weapon she is holding in the picture, she is also a staff user.
So I assume she shares the same combat abilities as Mulan.
Zeb I don't know about, but he also has a staff weapon. It may work differently, since it can fire ranged blasts.
That's the thing I noticed most in 2.0, that the Disney figures would have combat mechanics from one of the non-Disney figures.

And I don't think the staff is like a lightsaber, the moves are completely different.
To me, it looks like Mulan is a heavy hitter, when you do the combos right, she swings the staff around like a two handed flurry of pain.

Who has martial arts combat?
The only one I can think of is Baymax, some of his melee animations reflect that kind of combat ability.

Iron fist is a martial artist, and a lot of the other marvel characters are melee based as well.

Such a lost opportunity that they didn't make a Ping costume swap disk for her. I love Mulan as she is, but would love her with her families battle armor and sword.
