I wasn't talking to Kylethecartoonist, I was talking to buckmana. Sorry, I didn't notice that you had posted before me.

Yes, I am familiar with Aliens Colonial Marines.

Excuse me for a moment while I go to a soundproof closet and scream......

I preordered ACM and bought a season pass, based on the fact that it was made by Gearbox and I expected it would be as fun as Borderlands 2.
I didn't even get past the first level.

Also, that's another case of not being clear enough on the 3rd person aspect.
Turns out you only get that if you play as Alien, it's not available for Marine.

So, you can understand why I tend not to trust anything other then my own personal experiences now.
Devs may be honest, they may make mistakes, or they could be complete liars.

Also, some people have given false perceptions as well.
I ask a player about a certain game, they rave about it, say how great it is, I should go play it because it's awesome.
I do the research and find out I don't really like it.
When they said it was awesome, they meant it was awesome for them, not it would be awesome for me.

It's very complicated to explain, but I'll break it down simply for the sake of brevity:

I'm a sci-fi and superhero fan, if games don't fall into either of those categories, I'm not interested.
Yet, the majority of games are fantasy/magic based.
My unbreakable rule is that if it's a fantasy game, don't bother trying to tell me how great it is, I already know I won't like it.
And that's not an uninformed opinion, I tried one once and gave it up because I just got bored.

The absolute worst case was when I went to a computer game store to get something for an sci-fi mmo and the clerk realizes I play mmos.
He immediately starts on a "you should play World of Warcraft" pitch.
It took me nearly an hour to stop him, since I was trying to take the polite route.
