Just recently I got the chance to see Star Trek Beyond. It was amazing I highly recommend it. Way better than Star Trek Into Darkness and slightly better than the original Star Trek 2009.

X-Men Apocalypse -

Liked the baddie, and there were some really good set pieces. But the time lines seem a bit skewed now, and all the character cross-over references and nods to other stories in super hero movies, is all getting a bit much. These movies just have too many characters in them now, and the focus has been lost. Is it time for going back to basics?

Film styles have their decades, 50s sci-fi and musical, 60s arthouse / thriller, 70s Disaster and sci-fi blockbuster, 80s Action hero, 90s rom-com and Armageddon ( approaching the millenium ), and 00s Super hero, found footage and saw/hostel horror. I think any genre can get saturated to the point were you've 'seen it all before'. Joe on the street is just really confused about who is who and what their relationship is to other characters in the DC/Marvel universe, when they don't actually care - they just want to be entertained without being confused with 'lore'. I think DC are too late on the band wagon, and regardless of Justice League's quality, I think it's going to get a similar reception to SM Vs BM. Film's like Kick-ass, AntMan and Guardians' show that you can breath new life, but that you have to be willing to take a risk with something fresh.

a japanese flavour today

THE TALES OF PRINCESS KAGUYA
an achingly beautifully animated and quite sad tale from studio ghibli, may have treaded over the same trope but it never affected the whole!

47 RONIN
a less than joyous one this, a bit flat and a bit of a mess script wise

Star Trek Beyond, thoroughly enjoyed it. And they did a great job paying tribute to Leonard Nimoy within the movie.

Watched the 1996 original INDEPENDENCE DAY movie in readiness for watching the new one, RESURGENCE. Pure mindless popcorn but fun.
