i just graduated from college from doing art and i can attest to this and add that this pretty much applies to any art field. as long as what you make is good and you have the passion for it, higher education isn't important at all. i've have interviews/jobs where it was never even brought up or asked about.

that being said i did learn a lot and i really enjoyed the experience and i would definitely recommend it, but as felix said you don't necessarily need to go to the best of the best.

I can tell you that after reviewing hundreds of animation demo reels, considering what school the applicant has graduated from or what degree they've earned is always secondary if not considered at all.

The most important thing I want to know is does the character have weight? does it demonstrate proper animation principles? do the mechanics work (runs, walks, climbing etc..) ?

Technical positions such as rigging or lighting may carry more weight with a degree, but artistic positions like character animation or concept depend only on what you can do

* That being said, a degree comes in handy if you ever want to teach animation (which many artists do during hiatus or between gigs!)

This got out of hand fast. :P I think that we should start a topic for aspiring artists like myself, Bleu, and Liam, although wether it'd be better to start sepearate topics for each form of profession(game design would obviously be different from movie design in many aspects)...
