It is made for, and solely marketed at, the children of 8 years old and less that shouldn't be viewing 3D content and are likely to break the hinge of any other 3DS.

If it was a bit cheaper it would be brilliant.
MPK for short.

^ Actually it's for 7 and under :P Yes, if it was cheaper it would be much better. A bunch of my friends are interested in getting Smash Bros, and don't have either a Wii U or 3DS. This would be a good solution, since it is $40 less than the original.

I don't get why this is coming out, now. I understand why it was made, but it seems to me they are about a year too late unless we are going to see a major push in these games coming up.

What? Wait why? You can already disable 3D with Parental Lock, can't you?

Well, the design looks cool anyway. Maybe I'll get one when it's super-cheap for the sake of adding it to me COLLECTION O' NINTENDO CONSOLES, but I'm definitely sticking with my 3DS XL over it. The 3D is so good, I think that graphics-wise, it would be a horrible step down without it. It makes up for the 3DS only having standard-def.

Plus, what about when your child turns 8, and want to use the 3D effect? Are you gonna buy them a regular 3DS just for that?

I really think the whole goal is to get it into 7 and under hands. Let them get a feel for it. They will really need to start pushing games at that level. I guess they could go for the Leapster market. Maybe port some o those games.

I was going to get my 5 year old a hand held set for Christmas. I was going to go with the 3DS XL, but now this is a interesting option. I like the XL so I'll probably stick with that.

I have a six year old. We picked up the 3DS XL last Christmas, and he hasn't had a problem with it at all. He plays it more than his eight year old sister. We just make sure the slider stays to 2D, and he is okay. I say of the price of the XL does not hinder you, get that one. The screen is a real good size.

GameStop never ceases to amaze me, while I was there someone called in to ask the release date and preorder info for 2DS. The employee's response was "there's no such thing as 2DS".
