Nintendo Financial Results Briefing

Very good read about what Nintendo will do to try and turn their misfortunes around in this financial year.

Key Points:

- Confirmation of the Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remakes coming this year
- Talking about third party software, mainly on 3DS
- Making games that can only be played by having the gamepad
- Quick start menu coming to the Wii U in the summer update
- Nintendo will continue to publish third party games for the west (think Bravely Default)
- Showing off the retail and download titles coming to Nintendo platforms this year
- Nintendo to take advantage of smart devices. This starts with the introduction of MK TV
- Expansion of the digital side
- Using NFC payment cards (Japan only)
- Raising brand awareness by licensing characters for merchandising
- Nintendo Figurine Platform to introduce NFC Characters and be usable with more than one piece of software (Wii U and 3DS)

Of course this will all be expanded on when it comes to E3 in a few weeks.

All of the highlights are great, especially for next month's update. It will definitely speed things up.

I'm guessing by "making games that can only be played by having the gamepad" means more games like LEGO City Undercover, since we haven't seen any of those with the past few releases.

As for the NFP, oh boy... at least they'll work for multiple games (including pre-existing ones!)

I am seriously glad that I don't have a WiiU. I don't need the whole Mario Party of figurines all over my floor.

What does NFC mean?

Near Field Communications. Disney Infinity uses NFC for the base to read the toys and discs placed on it, as well as to save data back on them again. It is used for other things like data transfers between phones and contact less payment cards.

^Oh, ok, thanks. It'd be cool if maybe instead of figures they would use AR cards. Then again, WiiU can't use AR cards...
