As Sakurai stated, there won't be transforming characters in this iteration of Smash. That being said, I can see Pokemon Trainer being crossed off the list.

Did anyone notice the Spiny Shell item? When Sakurai talks about "familiar stages" there's footage of Mario and Sonic fighting on the Halberd stage. While fighting, there's a spiny shell floating above Mario. They never officially announced it yet.

yeah i think that's a safe assumption, but not many people will care because the pokemon trainer himself didn't do anything. i'm more concerned about the fate of the remaining two pokemon.

hmm no i didn't catch the shell item. KO on person in first place? could make stock battles realllllly interesting

So the status for Squirtle and Ivysaur are unknown. So we'll have to wait and see. Also with the Halberd stage from Brawl back, it looks like Meta Knight will probably be back. B-)

It's pretty safe to assume that Squirtle and Ivysaur will be back. They brought back Sheik! I thought they'd get rid of her, for sure! Greninja was a big surprise, too. I hope there's going to be WAY more characters. There's only 29, so far. There NEEDS to be AT LEAST 45!

Funny thing, I actually really thought there for a moment that Mewtwo would be back before I could see a full shot of Greninja. But it's still not to late! If they bring him back my Pokémon wishlist for the game would be complete (Lucario, Charizard and Mewtwo). I don't really care if they would bring back Squirtle and Ivysaur or not, never liked to play as them (always chose Charizard) but I do understand that other people want them back!
