This is one thing from Disney that I do not know much about. I would be interested to hear everyone's take on this.

Never played it but I love all those images where people type in offensive things and get banned.

It is amazing! It's a 2D MMORPG where you play as penguins. There are millions of items (literately) and some of them are inspired by Disney-owned things (including MU costumes for your penguin, MARVEL Superhero costumes for your penguin, Teen Beach Movie outfits, and Star Wars suits). There is also at least one party every month, and there are famous penguins (AKA mascots) and a great storyline that tells you why the parties are happening. You can also care for pet 'puffles' and decorate an igloo for you're penguin. There are about 30 games in it, plus some temporary games for parties, that are full-length games. By playing these, being a secret agent, or being a tour guide, you get coins to buy igloos, furniture, costumes and puffles. There are 11 different colored puffles, each with amazingly unique personalities. Go to play.clubpenguin.com to create a penguin now!

Is it free, or is there a monthly subscription? It looks to be a little out of my age range, but I am always looking for a safe place for my kids to go.

^my question too, is there a monthly fee or is it free? I know you can buy club penguin cards at TRU, but that could just be for cash-only items

There's no cash only items in the game. I've been at it since 2007. There's a paid membership subscription that's 7 or 10 dollars I believe. I'd recommend this game to younger children since it doesn't really have too much of a "BOOM. YOU JUST BLEW UP A BASE" but it can still be a fun game if you put the time and comittment to it.

Ah, unfortunately that means we won't get it, can't afford subscription games, and not going to pay for something that theres no guarantee of how often it could be used (especially since mommy wants her laptop, and the wee one would have to use it with supervision in order to play, which means not much play time in any given month - mommy doesn't share the laptop well ^.^; )
