ABC Gives Full Season Order to ‘The Muppets’ with Three More Episodes

ABC has given a full-season pickup to “The Muppets,” with three more episodes ordered for a total of 16 in season one.

The order of three additional segs is unconventional but in keeping with this fall’s revisionist approach to new series orders — numerous shows have seen their initial 13-episode orders trimmed back — and pickup decisions. “The Muppets” hails from ABC Studios which gives the Alphabet some leeway.

The series has performed respectably for the network in the Tuesday 8 p.m. slot. Reaction to the show has been mixed, as some have been critical of the more adult tone of these Muppets. The show follows the behind-the-scenes activities of Miss Piggy as host of a late-night show, exec produced by Kermit the Frog even though the two have ended their long relationship.

Bill Prady, Bob Kushell, Debbie McClellan and Kyle Laughlin are exec producers.
