Are Disney running out of ideas for cartoons?

Are Disney running out of ideas for cartoons?

Postby buckmana » Sun Sep 22, 2013 9:55 pm

I just checked to see what the current offering of Disney cartoons is.

For the longest time, I've avoided watching Disney shows, since I don't think they're very good anymore.

But out of curiosity, I wanted to see what they'd released since I stopped watching tv (over 6 years ago).

This list was very short indeed!

Fish Hooks.
Gravity Falls.
Wander over Yonder.

That's it.

Out of those 3, only Fish Hooks sounded interesting.
Gravity Falls failed to catch my attention.
And judging from the description, Wander over Yonder sounds terribly infantile.

I'm not an expert by any means, but isn't 3 cartoons a bit low?
Back during the boom period, I thought Disney had many cartoon series running.

The rest of the list is composed of live action sitcoms and well, I don't find those interesting anymore.

Are Disney loosing their ability to create quality programming?

You missed Phineas and Ferb. Fish Hooks is probably Disney's worst running cartoon as of right now. Gravity Falls has a fairly large fanbase, it is pretty good, but isn't the best. Wander Over Yonder is made by Craig McCracken, the legend behind Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, which is why it is probably my favorite, next to P&F.

Back to the main question, yes, it does seem they are running out of ideas for cartoons. They should have much more than this, but they seem to think their sitcoms and DCOMs* are more appealing to the average Disney Channel watcher.

(*DCOM stands for Disney Channel Original Movie, in case anyone doesn't know.)

I took one look at the concept art of Fish Hooks and well, quickly took that off the list!

I was expecting Finding Nemo style fish and instead, we got what looks sortof like humans.

And no, I didn't miss Phineas and Ferb, that was the last one I saw before I stopped watching TV.
Actually, it was the one that caused me to stop watching Disney cartoons, so that's not a good thing!

I don't find DCOMs interesting either, I lost interest in those faster then the sitcoms.

Well I thought you were listing all currently running cartoons. I understand why it made you stop, because it is very repetitive.

I always saw it as Disney concentrating on the tween market, since they probably think kids will watch anything

Likewise for Spongebob at Nick. Its getting dumber every year.
I look back at it like an ex wife,

As a person who hates Disney channel proper(repeated shows over & over & over again, mostly for tweens and under and on almost all the time at my house) the only show I will watch is Gravity Falls. There is alot more to this show than you think.
Where ever you go, there you are.

I totally agree! Disney shows are now, we'll, not that good. Wander over yonder and gravity falls r my favorites. PHINEAS AND FERB IS WAY TOO REPETITIVE. I STILL LIKE PHINEAS THOUGH
