Are Disney running out of ideas for cartoons?

Not by too many shows- trying to think of a way to put down what i'm trying to say.

What kinda dissapoints me is how Disney doesn't do TV Shows that are based off of their Animated cannon movies anymore.

There has been great Disney movies ever since 2010 that are already out, are coming out soon or are coming out in the years after 2013 that deserve to have TV series.

Like Wreck-It Ralph for Example. Having it as a TV Series would be great considering the sheer amount or Guest Characters that could appear on the show like Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario or Pacman. It would also be great for fans like me to see their favorite Disney character (Vanellope)'s cannon lives after the movie.

I wish Disney would take into consideration TV Shows for their current modern Animated Disney movies.

Sounds like that would be a copyright nightmare.
Especially since Sonic, Mario and PacMan were all cartoons or shows in their own right, therefore it might be a conflict of interest to appear on Ralph's show.

Also, Wreck-It Ralph has a pending sequel, so maybe they can't do a cartoon/series until they've worked out what material the sequel will cover, to avoid continuity problems between the movie and the show.


But otherwise, you are right.
We haven't seen a series based on any of the recent Disney movies.
The most recent (and only!) one I can think of is Car Toons.

Most of these movies ended with "happily ever after", which means there really was nowhere to go for future stories in serial form.
So what movies ended with the possibility that there could be more adventures?

Incredibles is the only one I can think of that definitely qualifies, since the way it ended, well, it didn't!
Brad Bird has even said if the series can be done with respect to the original movie, he'd be okay with it.

Frozen might be a possibility, Adventures of Arendelle perhaps.
I haven't seen that one yet, so not sure how it ends as to whether it could be carried over into a series.
And do not spoiler! I want to be surprised when I see the end of Frozen.

Much of the non-American world (and many Americans I've talked to!) have NO IDEA there were ever shows based on films... the DTV sequels occasionally got noticed, but other than that despite having friends and siblings in the target age ranges, I had no idea there were Aladdin and Little Mermaid shows. Return of Jafar, yes. The rest... never heard of them.

Also, where are you getting numbers like 10 and three from for heyday and current...?

Here's the list of Disney TV shows. There are more than a dozen current animated on-going (or "not cancelled") shows! The list needs updating, but Clubhouse, P&F, Fish Hooks, Gravity Falls, Jake, Sofia, McStuffins and Wander all seem to still be alive. And that's eight. At least, because there also things like Bow Toons (short), Spider-man (maybe on-going), etc.

I heard there was a Mickey Mouse short where he lost his ears.
I'd say that lack of creativity may be a possibility.

If you watch the recent short where Mickey loses his ears, you might change your mind... it's actually very well done and pretty clever! It's on YouTube, so I'll try and remember to dig up the link.

When I did the research, there were only 3 shows.
Those others were not on the list at the time.

I've had a look at the list to see what I missed:

Motorcity
Disney XD announced that it would not renew Motorcity for a second season.

Tron: Uprising
No confirmation on whether it has been renewed.

Sofia the First
Doc McStuffins
Preschool kiddy shows don't count.
The reasoning behind that is that adults and teenagers tend not to enjoy cutesy shows aimed at younger audiences.
There's more on that list, but I'm not going to itemize them all.

I'm not counting Marvel productions in this list, since they aren't "pure Disney".

I also don't count anything involving Mickey Mouse, since they keep churning that stuff out to maintain "brand recognition".

These have only been pitched, not put into full production yet.

Isabella and the Fireside Girls
A Phineas and Ferb spinoff.
Very little data available, not even an approval confirmation.

Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures
My eyes hurt from just looking at the concept image.
Pac Man has street cred yo! (heavy mocking sarcasm).

Well, if you change the criteria and ignore the shift in target audience and the general dumbing-down of TV... sure!

Sofia's in the centre of Princess-dom, however. Dismiss her and dismiss a good chunk of all Disney films by the same token...! Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, B&B, Frozen: they're all canonically in the same Universe. Sofia is PURE Disney..!

Dismiss for not existing, but if you dismiss "spin-offs," there goes TaleSpin and all the film-to-TV shows. Ignore single-season 'failures' and do likewise.
