Jamie Chung Next to Not Be Announced for ‘Big Hero 6′

Prior to its removal, ‘Believe’ actress Jamie Chung’s bio on the NBC website was the latest to betray the envelope of secrecy surrounding the voice talent for Disney’s upcoming animated film, Big Hero 6 (November 7, 2014). Now removed from the live bio (but still available via Google Cache), her biography read, in part: ‘Going forward, future projects include Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller; Rudderless, directed by William H. Macy; indie comedy Flock of Dudes and Disney’s animated film Big Hero 6.’ It is being assumed that Chung will tackle the role of Leiko Tanaka /aka/ GoGo Tomago. According to Marvel, Tanaka is ‘young and highly agressive, with little patience for others, but a very strong will, someone who does not give up easily.’ Tanaka has ties to to the underworld, but opted to join BH6 rather than face jail time (for convictions unknown). By uttering her own name, she can transform her body into an explosive ball of energy which is able to be projected at vast speeds.

Chung would join fellow actor TJ Miller who took to Twitter to announce his part in the film as the voice of Fred(zilla). Shortly after the apparently unsanctioned announcement, Miller’s tweet was removed.

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes Big Hero 6, an action comedy adventure about brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. With the help of his closest companion — a robot named Baymax — Hiro joins forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city.

Disney's ‘Big Hero 6' Adds Maya Rudolph to Top-Secret Voice Cast (Exclusive)
The “Saturday Night Live” comedienne joins T.J. Miller (“Silicon Valley”) and Jamie Chung (“Sucker Punch”)

“Saturday Night Live” alum Maya Rudolph has signed on to voice one of the lead roles in Disney's upcoming animated movie “Big Hero 6,” TheWrap has learned.

A representative for Disney did not respond to a request for comment.

Don Hall and Chris Williams are co-directing “Big Hero 6,” which has been operating under a cloud of secrecy. Disney hasn't confirmed any voice cast thus far, though the film is slated to hit theaters on November 7.

T.J. Miller (“Silicon Valley”) was the first actor rumored to be cast as Fredzilla, and TheWrap has confirmed that Jamie Chung (“Sucker Punch”) will voice a character named Go Go Tomago.

Chung's casting was revealed earlier Monday after “Big Hero 6” was listed by NBC.com among her feature credits in her official bio for the network's new series “Believe.”

“Big Hero 6” is a comedic action-adventure movie about brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. With the help of his closest companion — a robot named Baymax — Hiro joins forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city.”

The youth-skewing film is expected to be primarily populated by young voice actors, though several other recognizable actors will likely be revealed in the coming weeks and months.

Rudolph, who recently voiced a character in “The Nut Job,” will soon be seen in her husband Paul Thomas Anderson's upcoming detective comedy “Inherent Vice.” Her recent credits include “Bridesmaids” and “The Way Way Back,” and she has “The Maya Rudolph Show” debuting May 19 on NBC.

Rudolph is repped by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment and Hirsch Wallerstein.

Sneak Peek: Marvel, Disney team for 'Big Hero 6'
A boy and his robot give heart to the action-packed superhero cartoon.

Superheroes are invading the world previously ruled by talking animals and ice princesses.

Big Hero 6, in theaters Nov. 7, is the 54th movie from the Walt Disney Animation Studio but the first to utilize characters from their pals over at Marvel Comics. The result: comic-book action-adventure and major spectacle mixed with humor and emotion in its story of a kid hero and his robot.

"They're the beating heart of the movie," says Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh), co-director with Chris Williams (Bolt).

While the voice cast won't be announced till later in the summer, the first Big Hero 6 teaser is released online Thursday introducing 14-year-old teenage prodigy Hiro Hamada and the compassionate nurse robot Baymax.

In American-Japanese mash-up locale San Fransokyo, Hiro is a brazen, fast-talking kid inventor who is squandering his potential, and it's his older brother, Tadashi, who wants to steer him toward being a more productive member of society.

Baymax comes into his life, too, and when "forces of antagonism" rise and a mystery develops in the city, Hiro turns his squishy, soft and pliable robot meant for a career in health care into an armored fighting machine ready to save the day, Williams says. "As he's doing that, they form a relationship and a bond that Hiro wasn't counting on."

The youngster also forms a heroic team with his big bro's talented teen friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, neat freak Wasabi No-Ginger, master of chemistry Honey Lemon and resident fanboy Fred.

They do have a long way to go before they're the Avengers, however — instead of superheroes, these kids are super-nerds, according to Hall.

"No one's a god, like Thor, and there's no super-soldier serum or anything like that," Hall says. "It's all their brains and tech."

The main question knocking around in the heads of the directors at first was, "What does a Disney superhero movie look like?" The late-1990s Marvel comic on which the movie was very loosely based was "a love letter to Japanese culture," so an anime influence and Asian flavor is definitely in Big Hero 6, says Hall.

Plus, they wanted to honor the Disney legacy but also give it a personality all its own with a cinematic look and scientific bent.

"It became really, really interesting in immersing ourselves in the tech world right now and leveraging that into superpowers," Hall says. "At every turn we try to give the audience something they haven't really seen before."

Adds Williams: "Working here at Disney animation, it's easy for us to connect to nerdy types. In our building, we have a few — ourselves included. There's certainly a lot of inspiration all around us."

I agree with you! It seems Hiro will actually have a few missteps on how to get Baymax's design right before it comes to full fruition. it was quite hilarious seeing how he got to the point where he found out that the original version of Baymax was too fat to fit the heroic armour he wanted him to have!
