The Smurfs (Franchise general)

Postby KyletheCartoonist » Tue Jul 30, 2013 9:53 am

Anybody here a Smurf fan?
I got into the show in the fifth grade, and I liked it.
I have yet to see the Smurf movies or play a Smurf game. (That isn't a social one, that is)

I own Season One Volume One and the True Blue Friends DVDs, a shirt with Grumpy, and a Calaway Park- exclusive Papa Smurf, who sits on my shelf alongside my (future) Infinity figures. (And possible Angry Birds Star Wars figures.)
I also played Smurfs and Co. on Facebook and Smurfs village by Beeline, but stopped.
Not dead, just busy. :)

I grew up with a Smurf collector parent and I enjoyed the cartoon. I own all the Region 1 DVD's released so far and there are three more releases this year. They seem to really push the old series around film releases. I don't purchase any merchandise. I did see and purchase the first movie. When the PS3 game goes down half-price, I will pick it up.

I love the Smurfs. I own the first movie and will probably see the second one.

I used to watch re-runs as a kid, but I haven't seen anything from the Smurfs since. I never even saw the first movie, though I heard some pretty terrible things about it.

Funny Story: I went to see Wreck-It Ralph on opening night (Nov. 2, 2012). The theater was full (or close to being full) with college students from the school I also attend. When the trailer for The Smurfs 2 came on, the entire theater shouted "No!" and groaned in disapproval.

I don't have anything against the cartoon or the franchise as a whole, but the movies don't look very appealing to me at all.

I love the animated shorts and I enjoyed the Christmas Carol movie, but I haven't seen the new movies. I'm solidly meh about them, because they actually look decent to me, but I don't hear good things about them so I expect those were just the better parts in the trailer. :P

I've seen the Christmas one, but not the live-action ones.
Katy Perry as Smurfette? What?

I enjoyed the Smurfs. I liked the earlier episodes. Towards the end, I lost interest in it. It was when they focused on the kid smurfs that I really stopped watching it.

Nice! I want to go see it, but I really need to watch the first movie first.
And If I'm going to see a movie in theaters soon, it will be Despicable Me 2, which came out about four days after I saw Monsters University.
