Chris Pine Confirms His 'Wonder Woman' Role: 'I'm Super Excited'

“I’m not allowed to tell you much. I’m super excited, of course. Gal Godot is super talented and [director] Patty Jenkins is going to deliver. What excites me the most is to get to be in a film with a female super hero. With a woman in the lead role. I’m teamed with an intelligent, beautiful strong woman to destroy evil and save humanity. You know, the routine,” Chris told French publication Premiere (translated by USA Today).

Wonder Woman will hit theaters on June 23, 2017.

Nicole Kidman in Talks to Join Gal Gadot in ‘Wonder Woman’ (Exclusive)

Patty Jenkins is directing the comic book movie for Warner Bros., which will release the film in 2017

Oscar winner Nicole Kidman is in ongoing negotiations to play a high-ranking Amazonian warrior alongside Gal Gadot in WB’s “Wonder Woman,” an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

A representative for Warner Bros. had no comment.

Patty Jenkins is directing the comic book movie, which will co-star Chris Pine as Wonder Woman’s love interest Steve Trevor — who isn’t around to just send flowers and kill spiders.

While Kidman’s potential role has yet to be confirmed, the Queen of the Amazons in the “Wonder Woman” comics is Hyppolyta, who also happens to be Diana Prince’s biological mother — though it’s unclear whether the film will remain faithful to that storyline.

Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder are producing “Wonder Woman” with Charles Roven and Richard Suckle of Atlas Entertainment. Jason Fuchs (“Pan”) wrote the script.

Wonder Woman will be introduced in next year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” before her solo movie hits theaters on June 23, 2017.

Kidman, who is coming off the hit family film “Paddington,” next stars in “The Secret In Their Eyes” alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor and Julia Roberts. She has also wrapped Garth Davis‘ drama “Lion,” which co-stars Rooney Mara and Dev Patel. Kidman is attached to star in Adrian Lyne’s thriller “The Silent Wife” and Jean-Marc Vallee‘s limited series at HBO, “Big Little Lies,” which co-stars Reese Witherspoon. Kidman is also producing “Big Little Lies,” which could be beneficial for her in navigating the tricky shooting schedule for “Wonder Woman.”

The Australian actress, who is nearly six-feet-tall, is no stranger to comic book movies, having played Val Kilmer‘s love interest in “Batman Forever.”

Kidman is represented by CAA, Media Talent Group, Shanahan Management and Jackoway Tyerman.

Wonder Woman's Chris Pine Talks Steve Trevor, World War I Setting

After months of his role being a well-kept secret, Chris Pine is finally able to speak a bit about his portrayal of Steve Trevor in 2017's Wonder Woman movie.

“Steve Trevor is a rogue-ish, cynical realist who’s seen the awful brutish nature of modern civilization,” Pine tells Toronto Sun of his character. “He’s a worldly guy, a charming guy and it’s going to be a great, fun film. There are some incredibly deep, interesting and morally relevant themes."

We also know now that Wonder Woman will be set during World War I, something which was widely speculated and rumored whenever news of the movie would creep out. Pine spilled some extras and opinion about working on a set trying to recreate such an environment.

"It’s a period we don’t see often; it’s usually World War II," Pine says. "Our costume design is incredible. We have scenes with, like, 500 extras all in period dress. I’d never been on a film with extras casting as beautifully done as it is here. It highlights a really important point. When background casting is done well, it can make or break a scene. I’ve got people in deep background that have entire lives. It’s awesome, it’s actual make-believe land.”

He is all compliments when it comes to Wonder Woman's director, Patty Jenkins. "Patty is just directing the daylights out of it," he boasts. "It’s shot beautifully feels so wonderfully period, but also has this wonderful pop sensibility.”

Wonder Woman is set for release June 23, 2017.

Gladiator's Connie Nielsen Cast As Wonder Woman's Mother

Gladiator Connie Nielsen has been cast in Warner Brothers' Wonder Woman solo film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The 50-year-old Danish actress will play Hippolyta, the Queen of the Amazons and Wonder Woman's (Gal Gadot) mother. She was created by William Moulton and Marston Harry G. Peter, and her first appearance in DC Comics was in All Star Comics #8 (1941). Yes, it's same comic that Wonder Woman made her debut as well.

So, who is Robin Wright playing? Many had assumed that the House of Cards star was playing Queen Hippolyta in the film, but that's clearly not happening. According to her daughter, Wright will be a superhero of some sort. Keep them guesses coming!

The film stars Gal Gadot in the role of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman and Chris Pine as Captain Steve Trevor and Trevor's grandfather. It also stars Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya and Lucy Davis. Wonder Woman is being directed by Patt Jenkins (Monster, AMC’s The Killing).

Wonder Woman feature film is set to open in 2017.
