Jennifer Lawrence: 'I identify with Hunger Games character Katniss'

Jennifer Lawrence has joked that movie success has gone straight to her head.

The Hunger Games actress went on to star with Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook after the franchise's first installment came out last year.

When asked if winning an Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook means she has become more of a diva, she replied that she is more bossy on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire's set.

Laughing, she told the November issue of Empire magazine: "Well, of course I changed. I told them, 'Things are going to be a little different around here from now on'."

Lawrence plays Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games movies, and although the story is far removed from her American upbringing, she said that she identifies with the character in some ways.

"It's hard to say you identify with someone who's facing life and death and war," she shared. "It's not like, 'Oh my God that's, like, totally how I feel'.

"But there is the connection in that she doesn't feel like just part of the town anymore. Now everyone treats her as a celebrity... Whereas she still feels like she's part of them."

Lawrence went on to say that, since appearing on the big screen, she hates that people treat her like she is an alien or superior being.

"I get that a lot," she admitted. "I'll go to get a coffee where I always get coffee and all of a sudden there's this weird mood, and I'm like, 'Come on, I still get coffee here, just say hello'."

Empire's Hunger Games: Catching Fire Cover Arrives

Jennifer Lawrence kicks off our huge winter preview

Katniss Everdeen is back on her Capitol award tour in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. She's heading for the arena, but not before a very glamorous pit stop on the front cover of Empire's November issue.

On newstand, Jennifer Lawrence's heroine shares top billing with characters huge, and in Bilbo's case, not so huge in stature. Subscribers, meanwhile, will find Katniss standing alone, having vanquished all her fellow cover stars in a battle royale in which even the cunning Admiral Ackbar stood little chance.

Inside the issue lies a stack of juicy exclusives. Hunger Games aficionados will find all the Katniss insights they could wish for, with our reporter, Ollybush Ricardsby, dispatched to find Lawrence and interview the heck out of her about Hunger Games 2, her rise to fame and meeting Tyrion Lannister. There's also access-all-areas exclusives from Gravity, The Counsellor, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug and 47 Ronin, not to mention Ackbar's moment in the sun in a huge celebration of Return Of The Jedi to mark its 30th birthday.

This month's Empire debuts in all good and some mediocre newsagents across Britain and the 12 Districts on Thursday, September 26. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire lands in cinemas on November 21, two weeks after its fellow cover feature, Gravity.

Christina Aguilera's Fiery 'Hunger Games' Single Art Revealed: Take A Look!

Katniss Everdeen is front and center of the just-released visuals for 'We Remain.'

We got a taste of Christina Aguilera's stirring "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" track last week when the full soundtrack listing was revealed — now, we've got the "We Remain" single art to look at.

A dramatic image, the art shows Katniss Everdeen splayed on the ground — perhaps among the horrors of the arena — looking off into the distance. The sequel to "The Hunger Games" — in which children were forced to fight to the death for the amusement of an oppressive upper class — "Catching Fire" sees victors Everdeen and Peeta Mellark thrown back into the arena, where they will go toe-to-toe with all past Hunger Games winners. Meanwhile, a rebellion brews, instigated by the duo's refusal to kill each other in the last battle royale. The film hits theaters in November.

The photo perfectly matches the strident, wistful nature of Aguilera's track, in which she sings, "Whatever happens here/We remain." A message to fellow fighter and love interest Peeta, perhaps?

The image follows close on the heels of similar single art for Coldplay's "Hunger Games" contribution, "Atlas," which sees Katniss standing boldly on an outcropping of rock, bow and arrow in hand.

The "Catching Fire" soundtrack contains a bevy of other up-and-comers and powerhouses, including the Weeknd, Lorde, Imagine Dragons, the Lumineers and Patti Smith. We wonder which track will be released next and what manner Katniss will adopt in the accompanying art.

Will it be the National's deep, dark song "Lean"? Or Lorde's Tears for Fears cover, "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"?

Whatever it is, may the odds ever be in our favor that it drops soon.

This Week's Cover: Inside 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'

In this week’s cover story, EW goes deep — deep into a Hawaiian jungle, that is, for an exclusive visit to the set of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The highly anticipated sequel, in which Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) pays dearly for sparking unrest in Panem, doesn’t hit theaters until Nov. 22 (though advance tickets went on sale today). But we’ve got all kinds of reporting to whet your appetite. Plus, Katniss, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Gale (Liam Hemsworth), and Finnick (newcomer to the franchise Sam Claflin) all get their own collectible covers.

After a special report from the sweltering set in Hawaii, we head to Santa Monica, where EW reconvened the stars — along with new director Francis Lawrence and producer Nina Jacobson — for a rollicking conversation about the new movie. Among the subjects? Everything from the decision to “man up” Peeta’s character for the movie to Lawrence’s spectacular fall in Katniss’ wedding dress while the cameras were rolling. The filmmakers also talk about creating new scenes for Plutarch Heavensbee (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman), and actress Jena Malone talks about the thrill of playing the ax-wielding tribute Johanna Mason. Despite the easy camaraderie of the crew, everyone took seriously their mission to respect the pained heart of author Suzanne Collins’ sequel. “In every scene we asked ourselves, ‘How would these people feel if they came back to the Hunger Games,’” says Jacobson. “What happens when you come back from these experiences of war, not what happens in a movie when you’ve kicked a lot of ass?”
