Exclusive: First ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Trailer Is Attached to ‘Star Wars’
The opening weekend of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going to be massive. It may or may not break the record, but the film will have the widest release of all time, meaning it will be in front of a lot of eyeballs not only opening weekend, but throughout the Christmas break and through New Years. As a result, every studio in town wants to attach its biggest trailers in front of Star Wars. What better way to announce your big 2016 films than by introducing them to a gargantuan number of people at once?
We’ve already reported that the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War will be attached to The Force Awakens, which was pretty much a given since both films are distributed by the same studio. But we can now break the news that the first trailer for Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse will also be attached to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, meaning Fox was able to score prime placement for director Bryan Singer’s superhero sequel.
X-Men: Apocalypse co-writer/producer Simon Kinberg revealed the trailer premiere placement to us in a wide-ranging conversation with Steve earlier today, adding that we can expect something along the lines of a teaser, though maybe a tiny bit more substantial:
“I can in fact confirm that information. Our first trailer will be on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s our first thing out there so it is somewhat of a teaser but it’s certainly longer than a minute and it has a ton of cool stuff in it.”
