‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 2′ Director James Gunn Tells Us Who Will Get An Expanded Role In The Sequel More Gamora, Nebula... and Yondu?!
In 2017, the biggest idiots in the galaxy will reunite for “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.” If that sounds like a really long time from now, that’s because it is. It’s two frickin’ years away. But every once in a while — when Marvel Studios isn’t looking — we get a little piece of insider information to make the wait a little more bearable.
MTV News caught up with writer-director James Gunn at the world premiere of “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and he gave us the scoop on what we can expect from the highly anticipated intergalactic sequel. For starters, more Nebula (Karen Gillan)!
“The characters of Gamora and Nebula and Yondu… those are characters we get to know a little bit more,” Gunn said of “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.”
According to Gunn, who’s currently “at the beginning” of the screenplay phase for the Marvel flick, the sequel will be a “deeper” dive into the characters we know and love. “It’s about getting to know the characters a little bit more,” he said.
We’re excited that Thanos’ adopted daughters, Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula, are getting more screen time the second time around. Gamora has found a new family in the Guardians, but what about her angry sister Nebula? She was a stand-out character in the first film, and we’re looking forward to her expanded role in the sequel.
As for Yondu (Michael Rooker), his role in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2″ will most likely have something to do with the identity of Peter Quill’s jackass father. (His words, not ours!)
Whatever happens, we’ll have to wait until May 5, 2017 to find out.
Star-Lord is set to meet his maker in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
Director and writer James Gunn opened up about his Guardians sequel during Avengers: Age of Ultron’s premiere last night, where he seemingly confirmed that Peter Quill/Star-Lord will finally cross paths with his estranged, intergalactic father.
"There's a lot of stuff I'm excited about in the new movie," he said. "Listen, I'm still excited about Star-Lord's character and where he goes,” Gunn revealed. “At its heart, Guardians is a story about families, and if the first film was about him and his mother, this is a story about fathers. So it's exciting to go there."
And after Gunn tells the story of Star-Lord’s father, it sounds like he may explore other branches in the Guardian’s family tree. Speaking further about his long-term plans for the franchise, Gunn suggested that he has a third Guardians of the Galaxy film mapped in his head.
"I knew for a long time what the story of the second one was gonna be," he teased to Vulture. "And the third one!"
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.

Marvel conducted a wide search for its mystery part, which called for an Asian actress, and did several rounds of chemistry reads.
The role is a big break for Klementieff, who has mostly worked in France. She did, however, appear in Spike Lee’s recent remake of Korean thriller Oldboy in a role that demanded physicality and martial arts. Oldboy was her entree into American and English-language movies.
