Character Specific Unlocks

So say I beat the LR play set playing only as The LR, will I unlock the same things as I would for toy box playing as Tonto? I guess my question is, are toy box items franchise specific or character specific?

I want to say it's franchise specific. The characters add variety in abilities and appearance I think.

Well, except for the blockheads of the figures that you can put on blockheads...

And I may have been mistaken. I just watched a video referencing "lock boxes". In the Pirates playset, Jack comes across a lock box meant for Barbosa. I supposedly unlocks items for the toy box.
