Wii now, upgrade later?

Postby SlyCoug » Wed Aug 14, 2013 1:38 pm

Hello all, I'm new here, but I love this forum already!

I am planning to purchase the Wii version of the starter pack because it is the only system I currently own. I hope I won't be missing out on much (I don't really care for online gameplay so that won't bother me much). So far it sounds like the only real difference will be less impressive graphics and potentially not all of the toy box items.

In any case, I am planning to eventually get a Wii U, possibly in the next 6 months or so and was wondering if everything will transfer ok. That is, will I be able to use my figures and discs if I eventually upgrade to the Wii U version? I assume that I would have to start game data from scratch, but character levels and such may transfer over?

Any insight that anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Yes, all toys and discs are usable. You will just need to get a base and the game for Wii U. Your character levels and stats are tied to the toys. Saved level data will be the only thing that can't crossover.

Thank you for the fast reply. Is there a difference in the base for the different systems?

^I believe the base is unique to each system due to how it operates with that console. Each system has different requirements for peripherals. Just like Skylanders Portals.

I was originally planning on getting the Wii version too as this is the only console I own at the moment, but after hearing about the disadvantages of having this console I am scouring the web for a cheap pre-owned xbox 360 and changing my pre-order as soon as I get one to the xbox version, so far no luck but there is still time. :D

^Could you elaborate on the differences? I have been having a really hard time finding any concrete information on what the differences will actually be. I may take the same route as you depending on what I am able to find out.

Thanks!

So far it seems to have the following limitations:

No Online co-op
Potentially smaller toy box
Some Toy box items might be missing
Can't be patched for future updates (this is a big one)
No connectivity with the cloud( so you can't use the iPad app)

In short, you're simply not getting a full-featured version of the game.
I would definitely look into any other console's version and just skip
the Wii version. If you're planning to drop a lot of money on this game,
you should definitely make sure that you are getting the best possible
experience for what you want. My advice is to save your money for
one of the other consles and get the game on there instead.

Also some missions and sections of the playsets are said to be missing.
