Having introduced the Toy Box to kids & parents at all three release levels, it appears that newcomers are increasingly confused as to how to find a particular toy. Everyone is quickly amazed with the huge variety and the potential of what can be built. The minor trade-off is that once they know of a specific toy they sometimes have a tougher time finding it.
The key is the filtering interface, and here's a summary of tweak suggestions to make the Toy Box experience even better:
- The Creativi-Toys with holograms could be alphabetized again as they were in 2.0
- The designation of Creativi-Toy should be consistent - e.g. is a non-hologram toy such as an Action Button a Creativi-Toy?
- When you select a toy that's already been placed & return to the edit ribbon, you should not revert to "Unfiltered"
- When you reload a Toy Box, the filtering setting should be restored from the last save
- Filtering could apply to themes as well, for all varieties (Terrain/Blocks/Rails/etc) to avoid massive scrolling
(Theme filtering could be a set of thumbs-up favorites that is your "color palette" for a given Toy Box for example)
- A "Set Theme" setting should be restored on a reload of a Toy Box from the last save
- The unlocks from expansion games would fit into a theme filter better (e.g. trash compactor is an Empire toy)
- There are a few misses here & there - e.g. the unlockable cage shows up in game setup, but the unlockable gate doesn't
- A search option when you know the name of the toy could help too
