An Avalanche Alternative?

Postby goofyspaceranger » Fri May 13, 2016 4:18 pm

Spoke with another Toy Box Club volunteer today - many still in disbelief. She expressed an idea that has coincidentally been echoed across Twitter today...

If Avalanche Software began as an independent company, was subsequently purchased by the Walt Disney Company, and then was recently shut down, could that same team form its own company again and license Disney Infinity & its associated brands? How much would the Walt Disney Company charge for a product that is otherwise being discontinued? The new company would inherit the risk, but would have the ability to market console content as they chose. They could start a subscription-based product, or any new pricing system they determined would work. They'd have the overhead of the licensing (which might be compounded across all of those brands, or maybe not). They'd need to establish their own infrastructure (those are largely pay-as-you-go now, but the studio might or might not have directly dealt with that - and there's the issue of transferring Toy Box content if possible). So many details we don't know - still hopeful. Can't explain it, but still hopeful.

This is not to belittle the emotional & financial impacts of layoffs - they are always terrible experiences, big or small. We are not strangers to them in the land of the mainframes. It's better to save some jobs rather than save none. And when you have a product of quality, a product with years of investment, there's always an opportunity. The tricky part is to figure out how to shift as the market shifts, and how to leverage the differentiation. Maybe the talk with Uncle Scrooge is helpful. Maybe not. Just don't know.

Best Wishes. Still a fan.

I know they where planning to work along with the Hasbro Company. Maybe Hasbro is willing to do more and help.
At least Hasbro was going to work with Disney for DI 4.0

You are assuming that the general workforce has enough capital to finance everything. Most of us are working paycheck to paycheck factoring retirement.
