Awesome news for the team at Avalanche. Wow, I finally have the tiniest of hopes that the game might be able to re-boot in some form.

The Kotaku page about it says that it is not a part of a plan to resurrect Disney Infinity at the moment, but couldn't there be a way to voice our want for the return of Infinity as a means to fight for it's ressurection?

It's good news for the Avalanche, but being realistic Disney Infinity belongs to Disney himself and not to Avalanche, so i'm almost sure that we won't get a new DI or some sort.
I do believe that Warner Bros would use the skills and the experience of the Avalanche team for the better use of their own Toys to Life game Lego Dimensions.
A small hope for me that we'll see something happen to DI in the future.

Honestly, I don't see Disney letting creative control of their franchises be outsourced to a competing company.

If Avalanche Software chose to become an independent contractor not linked to WB, then that might have been more likely for them to restart DI on their own, just lease the rights and put up all the funds for development themselves.
That way Disney gets a percentage of the sales income and none of the monetary drawbacks that lead to our favorite toys2life game being cancelled.

But I've seen a similar situation before, a company which had a game was directed to close it down, they restarted independently, but stated they had no intention of rebooting the game that made them famous/popular, much to the disappointment of the players of that game.

So, I'd have to say, this announcement isn't likely to give us any reason to expect the return of Disney Infinity.
