^That's true, but it is possible to start a toybox on a console, then open on mobile and add a few toys, then return to the console version. Not very convenient, but it can be done.

Wouldn't that trigger the "This toybox has toys you haven't unlocked and thus cannot be edited" message when you returned to the console?

^Yes, it will, but that just means that you can't edit, move, or delete those toys while you're on the console. Inconvenient, but it's possible to work around it. You would want to make sure that you placed the toys and connected them exactly how you want them before you go back to the console to avoid having to switch back and forth all the time.
