Yeah, weighing up the pros and cons, I don't miss them either. As a lot of other people have said, I do miss getting unusual items like Madame Medusa's Swamp Speeder, but it's not worth it when you have no idea what you're actually getting. At the start of 2.0 I bought one pack of power discs that contained Dr. Strange's Cloak of "Levitation" (*Cough* Yeah right *Cough*) and a costume that I couldn't use, and at that point I was done with them and only bought the few discs that I actually wanted off ebay.
Whilst they could just put the random items in the build menus instead, power discs do have the major advantage that you don't have to go through all the build menus to use them. Having to go through the sky changer and use the magic wand to switch the terrain is a pain in the butt compared to just popping down a couple of power discs and having the whole toybox theme itself instantly. But then on the flip side there's the annoyance of not being able to place power disc items into toyboxes, so it's all swings and roundabouts really.
