i have on occasion changed the username of someone who has been new to the forums with a low post count.

the reason also needs to be justifiable, in the case of Elmo STM it was to match the XBL ID.

i would not consider changing the username of an established account with a high post count.

Not like my opinion in this matters (lol), but I completely agree with your logic Sheriff; That's been my philosophy in the past when this has been brought up.

hm, I don't want to criticize you mods, but at least I question that a bit ;)

a new account with low post count... what's too loose for such a user if he just creates a new account?

his 22 posts?
his famous state?

no, a new user actually just can create a new account with the desired name.

a long term user with a high post count can't do the same (at least not without loosing his post count, friends, saved pms, etc. which seems to be important to some people)

so a name change (if at all)seems rather be interesting in case of long time users who actually would loose something from using a new account.

also:
a new user with low post count 'deserves' a name change, though he has likely contributed less...

a long time user who contributed maybe thousands of posts does not?

what's the logic behind this?

people get used to seeing a particular username and can search for posts made by that user. if an established user changes his name there will need to be a record kept and this is when the administration hassle begins.

since january 2013 i have had less than 10 people ask to change their username and when i did 2 of them asked again and again.

it is easier not to do it at all.
